[Urgent]Parrot Has Saliva-Like Substance In Mouth

Postby ovicior » Mon Dec 14, 2015 8:11 pm

My green cheek just started shaking his head and splattering a saliva-like substance everywhere. His poop has been dark, with a (seemingly) normal amount of crystal. He's going to the vet in the morning. What is it, and what can be done to keep him alive as long as possible?

He eats a lot of fruit, not a lot of veggies. He doesn't eat them that often, and doesn't like them too much. He sometimes gets organic orange juice, along with homemade juice.

Please help. :gcc:

I don't know what you mean by crystal in his poop. The poop is made up of three parts the feces, urates and urine. The feces should be well formed and look sort of like a worm and be brown or sort of greenish depending on diet, the urates should be white and the urine is a clear liquid. There should be no crystals in it. Dark feces could indicate blood. I would place a heat pad in the bottom of a box or aquarium with a towel over it and then a layer of newspaper for easy clean up on top of that Adjust the heat pad so the padding over it is warm to the touch but not hot you want to keep the temperature close to 80 to 85 degrees F. I would place the heat pad so that it only covers a portion of the bottom soo that if you get it too warm the bird can move off of it instead of being burned.
I have to leave and won't be back until around midnight and will check back when I get back home. It is now 9 pm.
