Any new recipes??

Hey, me again Anybody got some simple quick recipes that a would love to eat, I wanna change her diet a bit and find something a bit more interesting other than seeds(especially sunflower) and pellets... (Because she throws most of it to the bottom of her cage or at me haha ) She's very fussy and I want it to be something quick and easy which she won't waste

To get her to eat her veggies you can mash them up with her favourite fuit, something sweet like mango, strawberry or grapes.
Or for something quick you can buy 'just add water and bake' bird muffin/bread mixes. I havent tried this yet but think it looks great, though it is pretty expensive (makes six normal sized muffins for $10!) I forget the brand our local pet shop sells but you can get like apple and cinnamon muffins, bannana muffins, dried apricot muffing and stuff like that, you can also get harrisons bake at home birdie bread.. that sort of thing.
You can make foraging seed bells using seeds & either honey or gelatine and then put in the fridge to set.
Or birdie Iceblocks for a hot day, (freeze fruit).

I would not use any supermarket muffin mix... they all have weird chemical crap in them (including baking powder with aluminum which is a No No for birds). I also don't use the Harrison's birdy bread because it has soy in it (I don't feed soy to any of my animals and, besides, my birds don't like it -somebody donated some to me and I tried it, not a single bird touched it!).

But, if you want to make muffins for your birds, you can make them yourself real easy by mixing whole wheat flour, corn meal, some old-fashioned oatmeal, an egg, a bit of aluminum-free baking powder, some water and whatever goodie you want to put in there like fresh corn, grated carrots, grated zucchinis, pureed pumpkin, raisins, etc. It doesn't really matter how they come out because they like them anyway!

Where I am they sell Birdzone. Airtight pacaged just add water muffins in many flavours. I forgot the brand in my other post so that is why i am just saying this, but it seems pretty natural, I am really tempted to buy it because im really not a good cook :p

I know nothing about the pre packaged mixes that you are speaking of, but I do recommend that you read the list of ingredients thoroughly and if you do not know what something is find out before purchasing it. I would also read the nutritional information on it. I know that at least in the US that labeling and standards in producing things for animal usage are far more lax than those produced for human use and they are always finding new ways to include substandard and sometimes bad things in our foods. It pays to be careful.

I checked the ingredients in one of the Birdzone muffin mixes and this is what I found (ingredients in red are either bad or iffy):
Wheat Flour, Wheat Germ, Maize Meal, Egg Powder, Dried Apple, Almonds, Sultanas, Milk Powder, Baking Powder, Cinnamon, Salt.

The reason for the 'red' on these ingredients is that egg, milk and added salt are no good for parrots, apples are not organic, baking powder is not aluminum free and cinnamon is not Ceylon.

The thing with commercial parrot food is that it doesn't necessarily have to be good or even healthy for them so you need to not only read the ingredients but check to see if even the ingredients that look good and safe are really so.

Also one more thing I hadnt thought to say was you can also sprout seed and certain beans/lentils. Im not to sure wich beans are good to sprout and wich arent so you would have to look into that but to sprout them you just soak them in water for about 24 hours and then using a strainer strain out the water and serve It increases the nutritional value of the food quite a bit

Please don't sprout beans and lentils for your bird as they contain a toxin in them that can harm and possibly kill your bird, they are only safe for human or avian consumption if they are fully cooked as the cooking process destroys the toxin.
