Feeding gloop

Postby MrsMom25 » Sat Jan 23, 2016 8:58 am

I've had a Goffin's Cockatoo for about 3 weeks now. She's doing great, adapting to us, and seems quite happy.

I started her on gloop two weeks ago, but even though I introduce each new ingredient slowly (and eat some in front of her) she still won't touch them. The dogs under her perch are loving it! Just like feasting under a toddler's high chair.

The two main bits she adamantly refuses are the white beans and the garbanzo beans. She eats the insides of the sweet corn, the peas, and the carrots just fine. That's all that is in it so far, besides the Kashi. I gave her a few days with each bean, fed them alone as well as mixed in, and even tried them as "treats." She won't have anything to do with them.

My question is this: can I grind up the beans and mix it in that way, so she can't really avoid it?
Thanks!

Yes, you can grind them up. The main reason that they don't eat them is that they were not taught that they are food. Of course it doesn't help that they are not a part of their natural diet, either. Still don't give up as sometimes it takes a long time of sharing any food with them before they will even try them, so lots of patience is the real key to this.

They can live without white beans and garbanzo. Mine don't like the taste so adding them crushed just means she won't eat any of it.
It is funny how they get the inside out of a pea or corn and leave the shell intact.
