My cockatiel Sara is almost 21. She has always been very healthy. She was molting and has some new feathers. She just bathed and one looks odd.. never seen this before.. Didn't know if it was remnants of the blood feather.. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen this/if this is normal.. maybe i am just paranoid

I don't have cockatiels but this does look a bit strange to me. I don't know if this is from the sheath or what, but it does look as if she is having trouble getting the sheath off of the feather.55 Based on my reading cockatiels seem to develop feathers more readily than most other species and I am wondering if this might be an indication that her dietary needs are changing.

We have been breeding cockatiels, probably longer than any other species except for Budgies, which we have really messed up genetically speaking, but still there is very little to go on for older birds.

It looks like a pin that never 'outgrew' the 'blood' stage. I would not touch it because, if there is still active capillaries in there, she could bleed a lot from it. Just wait it out and see what happens...
