Sick conure?

Postby Midnight » Mon Mar 28, 2016 1:35 pm

Hello,
My ten month old conure is acting a little weird today. She doesn't seem to want to come out and play much and she isn't eating her pellets as much as she normally does. She did eat some veggies this morning though. She still moves around in her cage and hangs upside down but she is fluffing her feathers quite a bit and sneezes a little too. She also is twitching her wings a bit. I'm not sure if it is because she slept a lot later than normal last night? We came back very late and we forgot to turn off her lights when we left so she was still awake. Not sure if that has anything to do with this or is she sick? Should I take her to see a vet? It's raining over here so I'm a little hesitant.

Thanks
Midnight

If she is fluffing she is cold. Could be a fever.
Sneezing could be upper respiratory infection.
Mine can do all kinds of things but if they don't want to eat I know something is wrong.
Make an appointment.
Birds are prey animals and hide their injuries and illnesses. Usually by the time we see it they really need help.
Cover her carrier with a towel when you take her out.

Sorry about flinging at you but I am getting tired.

It is always best to see the vet if you bird is not acting right, As Liz said they hide illness so they can remain with the flock so when we notice anything is not quite right with them getting them in to see the vet may just save their lives,

Sounds to me as if she might have been coming down with something and the long day made it come to the surface because lack of appetite and fluffing during the day are both symptoms of disease that has been there for a while, at least (they do hide their symptoms until they are no longer able to do it so, by the time we see anything different, whatever it was has been there for a while and has gotten bad). Personally, if she is the same today, I would take her to the vet.
