Sun Conure Piglet

This bird eats most of the day. He's always ravenous! Apple is his favorite, but he eats corn, carrot, broccoli, peas, orange, rice, beans, seeds, pellets (when he's desperate)',nuts bread, egg, bacon (anything we're eating). He does eat his pellets when everything else is gone. He dips them in his water to soften them up. And another thing. He's really only in his cage when we leave the house and at night. That bird holds its droppings until he's released from his cage! I cover his cage at 8:00pm and uncover at 7:00am. All perishable food gets eaten on his tabletop play gym on the screened porch. But watch out when you take him from his cage in the morning! He does about 4 huge dumps on the way outside! We live in Florida, so this is not a problem year round. He also has a hanging gym out here on the porch. He's only about 7 months old. Is this normal behavior for a baby sun? I'm planning to introduce him to a local avian vet next week if for nothing else than to get his toenails cut and maybe a DNA sex test. He's eating now....been eating the last two hours!

No this does not sound normal to me. If he is still young enough he may still be needing to be fed a handfeeding or weaning formula in order to get enough nutrition. This is the very first thing that I would try. I think that I would also get him is to see the vet as quickly as possible because something is not right about this.

I agree. It's most definitely NOT normal, parrots don't eat for hours. I only had one that did that and he died shortly after from aflatoxin poisoning so, please, take him to the avian vet for a completely check-up. Also, PLEASE, NO BACON!!! I can't think of anything worse to feed a parrot than bacon! It's nothing but saturated fat and bad cholesterol, it has no nutritional value to speak of... Sun conures eat fruits, not meat.
