I'm so, so sorry that you went through this ordeal, and that these poor birds are being subjected to such inhumane treatment at the hands of this breeder. I can't offer you any legal advice, but if you're looking for a rescue that might have birds available for adoption nearby, there's this one:
Sy's Piece of Heaven Sanctuary:
http://syspieceofheaven.org/about/Due to financial difficulties and her current housing circumstances, my sister actually has my late mother's Sulphur-crested 'too boarded there until her situation changes. They're very compassionate and dedicated people. Theirs is a forever home for any and all unwanted birds. According to their website:
Our mission is to provide a safe place for these birds to go when no other options are available. Some of these birds have been abused or neglected, others may have medical issues. We do not offer birds for adoption, but the rescue actively finds suitable homes for parrots that would thrive in a home environment.
So while they don't generally adopt out their birds, they might be able to help you once you're ready to look for another feathered companion.
Feel free to ask any questions; I can always pass them along to my sister and have her ask the director/workers there, and my sister's boyfriend used to work there so he's on good terms with the staff as well. Best of luck!!
