This is an oldie but I think you will all enjoy it. It's about a female cockatoo that having been brutally attacked by her mate had to have her legs amputated so her doctor gave her prosthetics and she woke up from the anesthesia and started walking right away!!!

Now, this is another case of people thinking they know enough to put a male and female together and the bird paying the price for their arrogance. Cockatoos are highly hormonal birds and keeping a male and female together is always a risk if you don't know what you are doing because females will not 'put out' if the male does not make a nest in front of them. This enrages the overly hormonal male to the point of doing something that is absolutely unheard of in the wild: attacking and even killing the female!
