bongo ate rat posioning!!

Postby Bongo » Sun Apr 11, 2010 2:18 am

I am so worried and the vets are closed on sunday.

I had rat poison under my bed months ago before I adopted bongo and I totally forgot it was there. i left my door open and the room was dark, but he sneaked in there and swallowed a good 3 spoons of poison pellets. I feel so stupid and frustrated at myself. not to mention i fed him his serve of oats just minutes before I found out his tummy was full of poison. I never starve him, but he always seem to want to eat, eat and eat, even after a full belly!

I am so anxious and sad, i dont want to loose him  i hope he will survive untill the morning visit to the vet

if you haven't met him, this is him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ussrWJ5pjWI

I hope he's alright! Are you sure he ate rate poison? How do you know he ate it?

Have you tried calling every Vet in your area? I know when my sister's dog had to have a section, the vet was available on Sunday.

You'd better hurry. I cannot imagine a parrot surviving poison even if it's meant for a rat. Get it to an emergency vet and they may be able to clear its crop before it gets ingested.

thankyou so much for your prayers and hopes. I feel so very anxious :(

I did try calling every vet on that sunday and eventually got to an emergency center, I spoke to the vet there to hear if he knows what hes talking about, but he told me he only had tablets and "unsure" of dosage, and sounded like he was money hungry. Unfortunately by this time bongo had ingested most of the pellets.. and I could tell that he swallowed the bright blue pellets because I could see it through his belly, and it was in his stool.

We took him first thing this morning to our trusted avian vet and Bongo now needs to have an injection every day for a week, and we can only hope now for the best. I can't imagine the worst  he is soo dear to me!

I've been searching for similar cases as bongo, but have had no luck in hope.

The fact that he's still with you has got to be a good sign. Please keep us update. Does the Avian vet think he will be ok?
