Air Purifiers and filters

Postby LittleWing » Fri Nov 04, 2016 10:42 am

Hello All,
Does anyone have any input or information on a good air filter to get for cleaning the air of feather dust and related pollutants? (I have 2 caiques) I think I might be starting to have some respiratory symptoms related to all the fine particles floating around in the air. I am pretty OCD about keeping the bird area clean, but sweeping and even the air current of the vacuum just stirs up all the feather fluff.
I read an article on one of the bird websites that recommended the Austin Air Allergy Jr, so I have been reading about that one. Seems to have gotten good reviews on Amazon with only a few bad ones.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to the particle size that the air purifier will remove, it seems to me that the biggest issue facing a bird owner is ozone production, followed by how much air the purifier moves. I would recommend that you measure the room and get an air purifier that is rated for double the space of that room as it will make the removal of particulates that much more efficient. Ozone is ionizes oxygen and is bad for both humans and birds to be breathing and most if not all air purifiers produce some ozone so you will want to get as close to ozone free as possible.
