Feathers

Postby Pajarita » Fri Dec 16, 2016 12:05 pm

Two articles - the first one about the discovery of dinosaur feathers perfectly preserved in amber from 100 million years (how cool is that?! I have always been fascinated by amber and how things got stuck in it - I even have a piece I got in the Dominican Republic that has a prehistoric insect in it); the second one is even more interesting because it tells of the change in shape of the shaft of feathers under stress (it goes from round to square!!!) and why this happens. And I wonder if this is the reason why stress bars appear...

This is very interesting , I too have amber with bugs in it and lots of fossils collected when I was a kid. I really wanted to be a paleontologist growing up and travel the dig sites. Funny how real life directs you. BW
