How do exotics thrive in urban areas?

Postby Pajarita » Tue Oct 31, 2017 10:17 am

This an article mostly about quakers in USA -actually and more specifically, in NYC- and IRNs in London but it's interesting even if it's not really completely accurate because the reason why these particular species did well in these two locations is that the weather in London is actually quite mild and quakers are the ultimate survivor parrot not only because of their intelligence but also because of their social structure AND the fact that they are the ONLY parrot species to use communal nests all year round.

Even with the communal nesting, I still think an extended cold snap would wipe out or reduce the northern flocks like the ones in CT.

There's a reason that they're there in huge numbers, but not here, only 80 miles to the North. My daughter is still in school in New Haven CT, and there are a lot of Quakers down there.

Hmmm, I don't know about that because they do have feral quaker colonies in Chicago and it gets pretty cold over there! See this: https://www.wbez.org/shows/curious-city ... 34c6b29a09

If they can survive in Chicago, they can probably survive anywhere!
