Figs are wonderful this time of the year! It's not easy to find fresh ones because they ripen at the end of the summer but, if you do, go for them! If you can't find them [or are, as in my case, way too expensive], do buy the dried ones! I always give my birds dry figs this time of the year because they are naturally dried without sulfites or any other additives and easily and inexpensively available for the holidays. All I do is put them in warm water overnight to reconstitute them a bit [it helps to lower the sugar content] and serve them the following morning.
