I have often wondered why is it that pet parrots, with medical care and no predation have such short lives? Because, leaving aside the fact that for an undomesticated species living in captivity is very stressful, they should, at least, last almost as long as the wild ones but they never do! Now, I have always believed that feeding them a fresh food diet is essential for their livers and kidneys health but is it possible that the low calories it provides is one of the most important things that a fresh food diet has for them?
