5month old senegal still has majority baby feathers?????

Postby L4DYCR0F7 » Sun May 30, 2010 8:21 am

:senegal: I am not too sure what to do. I have a 4/5month old Senegal parrot called Kiwi who only has feathers on her head and her wings, the rest of her body seems to be covered in baby feathers and it shows no sign as far as I can tell of proper plumage coming through. Are the baby feathers her adult ones growing in or is it something else?? please help...

the only reason i noticed there was a problem was because there was another 2month old senegal in the pet shop a week later and it had a full perfect plumage?????

thanks

Hi,

Your Senegal should have been fully feathered by about 10 weeks or so. Do you have a photo? I'm not sure what you mean by baby feathers. As chicks they are bald and then their feathers come in. There are no baby feathers. If his feathers aren't coming in you're going to have to take him to an avian vet to see what is going on. :(

hello you :-)

all is well now...I took her back to the pet shop that I got her, and found that she was plucking her feathers and had been since before I got her. Even though Im not very experienced with birds, I still felt kinda silly lol
I now have a new bird and he is full plumage and a lovely wee thing... still not sure what to call him though as I feel kiwi is wrong. I only had kiwi for a couple of weeks but it was still really hard to swap her over.
thanks for your reply though :-) I will get a picture of my wee birdy up soon

I'm really sorry to drop this on you, and please don't feel offended.
But if you don't recognise a plucking parrot you need to do a whole lot of reading up on the subject!
Fortunately, this is the right place to start, so get reading!
