and have the moves to prove it (courtship behaviors). Article about biologist who thinks has figured out why birds that are mate-bonded for live still put out a courtship every year.
(Note) there is a mention of a canary pair being split up for the winter and breeding earlier the following season but that is the wrong example to give because canaries are not only territorial (instead of social - and are supposed to be kept separate during the resting season) and promiscuous (a male will breed with any female that is in season) but also have the capacity to be polygamous (breeders will breed one male to two different hens at the same time - there are special cages that are split down the middle so each side holds one female and the male is put with one first and then the other.
