I would start with making the dry mix (excluding the egg and biscuit mix, glucose powder) as this is their main diet.

Try chopping up the veggies into small pieces, this got my lorikeet to eat them and also remember lorikeets don't like food one day and like them the other.

Cans of baby food is also very good for Lorikeets, it fit's the fruit/vegetable requirements side of their diet. I give my Lorikeet small amounts of chicken and boiled egg for additional protein. I wouldn't give them any seafood.

Hope some of this help =]

Hi Issy,
Thank you, that is helpful, I appreciate your reply!

How do I make the dry mix?

Someone else suggested baby food cereal, is that what you mean by the baby food? Or did you mean the wet veg/ fruit purees that come in little glass jars?

I don't think I need to get the wet fruit purees, as we have fresh fruit here that he likes...I was just concerned that he wasn't having his nutritional needs met with fresh fruit alone, and that perhaps it was a diet too high in sugar.

I meant the baby food that has vegetables and cereals in it. I wouldn't get the fruit puree one if you can offer fresh fruit.

It is called rice cereal and is one of the main ingredient for lorikeet dry food. You can also mix Weet-Bix with apples as a meal.

Here are some food to avoid: Avocado, chocolate, onions, Eggplant, olives, beans, Potato and Milk (birds are lactose in tolerant), caffeine, mushrooms. Don't overfeed on pasta and peas as they will get the iron levels too high - the same goes for raisins.

I know that this question was asked a few years ago but the best thing to do was to find some native flowers and give it to the lorikeet and supply it with fresh fruit cand vegetables. :rainbow:
