Hi
My Alexandrian female age 6 years is losing her feathers. She is tamed and never goes to cage all day but at night only she goes to cage. I started to put her in cage at day time 2 months ago.
I am very worrying about her feathers because no new feathers are coming.
I visit vet doctor and he give her multivitamin syrup. I have started syrup from 2 weeks but feathers are still losing.
Please advice

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry your bird is having problems. Now, what kind of tests did the vet do on her? Was she tested for PBFD (Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease)? Was a scraping of her skin tested? Is her cage adequate -meaning, the right size of cage, the right gauge of bars, the right metal or finishing? Was she outdoors at any point in time? Did she have contact with another pet bird that was recently added to the family? Is she a breeding bird? What kind of diet is she getting? I might as well tell you that vitamins are not going to do anything for her feathers... not in terms of replenishing them. Not that birds do not need vitamins and minerals because they do! But feathers are made of protein and vitamins and minerals have very little effect on losing or regaining them? Could she be depressed and, in her anxiety, rub her face and head repeatedly against a surface?

Thank you for your reply
She never tested for any disease.
She was spending all day open at my house (without cage).
I put her in cage about 3 months ago.
She looks like very stressed after she started her life in cage.
Please help.
Her disease is curable?

My dear, nobody knows if she has a disease because she has not been tested. I am thinking that your vet is not an avian vet because avian vets do blood work as a matter of routine but most especially if the bird shows feather loss (because it's a symptom of PBFD which is fatal, contagious and has no cure). They also do not give out or even recommend 'vitamin syrup' because vitamins in liquid form degrade very rapidly.

If the bird was mine, I would take her to an avian vet for blood work and see what the results show. But I would also take her out of the cage (are you trying to breed her and that's why you keep her in a cage?). You also did not say what kind of diet she is getting... these birds are not easy to feed correctly because, although they are mainly frugivores, they also need the right kind of protein.

Are you in India?
