Almonds

Now, almonds are great for parrots because they have such a high content of calcium but none of my birds prefers them as a high value item and will only eat them if they are shelled and have no other nut - I don't know why...

True, they are high in fat and protein. The best nuts, in terms of protein and fat, are macadamia and pecans. Mine get pecans every day but not macadamias -too expensive to give them to my birds every day so they get them on occasion but if I had only a couple of parrots, I would use them all the time as treats/rewards.
