eating poop

Postby notscaredtodance » Sat Jul 03, 2010 5:47 pm

My senegal is eating her poop, which is usually a sign of mineral deficiency, but she's on an 80% pellet diet right now. It's zupreem, and I'm in the middle of switching her, but if she's stubborn I still make sure she gets some type of pellet.

Any idea about this? I'm planning on asking my vet but they're closed until monday.

Totally off topic, the vet office got aviator harnesses in finally! I can take my baby outside without a cage!

what'd the vet say? our sennie went through a brief period of constantly stepping in his poop (on the playgym etc) and licking it off. totally grossed me out! but yeah, if animals eat non-food items it tends to mean there's some sort of dietary deficiency or perhaps underlying absorption problem. our bird had yeast around the time he'd do it. coincidence? maybe?

turns out it was calcium. her levels were way low. I put a mineral block/cuttle bone in the cage, following the vets advice, and he said to just watch, since i obviously keep a close eye on her. this was a week or so ago, and he said to come back in 6 weeks for another blood test. she is already destroying the cuttle bone, so thats good
