Hops toxic to Birds?

This may sound like an odd question, but are hops toxic to birds? I know that commercially grown hops are bad because of the pesticide residue, but are the hops themselves toxic? Just a hypothetical question DH wants to start brewing his own beer which got me wondering about it.
