Is there something wrong?

Postby jaquiscorpio82 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 6:06 am

hi there i have alittle concern about Sidney.
In general Sidney seems himself ie making lots of noise , eating, drinking climbing about his cage etc. my concern is that for past few weeks he keeps sitting on the bottom of his cage instead of his perches.
Im just wondering if birds go thru a stage where the do this?
is it normal?
or is it a sign of something?

How long is he sitting on the bottom before climbing up again. What is he doing there? Is he eating or scrambling around or is he just sitting there? Are his feathers puffed up like he is sleepy and does he look like he wants to take a nap there?

When birds sit on the ground without any reason to (like searching for food or playing with something), puffing up their feauthers and looking like theyre gonna fall asleep is a sure sign that something is wrong. I would advise to take him to an avian vet.

if sidney is a young bird, sometimes they prefer to be on flat surfaces rather than perches until they feel a little more sure footed. move your perches lower, see if that helps.

definitely go to the vet just incase. its better to catch something early, when its treatable, rather than wait and end up losing your bird

His feathers are normal(sat against his body),
he can be sat down there over half hour/ walkin about/ goes to a corner and whistles and talks/ eats/ or goes to sleep.

Greys are ground foragers, right? Is there anything different in his feeding routine? Could he be looking for dropped bits of food? When he does perch, does he do so steadily?

I have more experience with cats than birds at this point, but I have learned with cats, which also tend to hide illness, if you have that funny feeling something is wrong (and you know the animal well enough that it's not just early days jitters) it's definitely time to get the kitty checked out. I'm guessing the same goes for birds.
