Scarlet is sick

Postby ptuga72 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 8:57 pm

So for the past week Scarlet has been acting more tired. At first I cracked it up to her not sleeping well (lately jake thinks it's his duty to wake everyone at 5am). On Friday we brought home our foster birds, and she was at first okay with it, but Jake wasn't. I think his behavior has stressed her out and now whatever might have been brewing in her has surfaced. On Saturday she had a yawning fit where she yawned for 10 mins, but seemed otherwise fine, but tired. So, I called and made an appointment with the vet for today (Monday) and upped the amount of time her humidifier is on (from 2 hours to 4). Sunday the same thing. Today she wouldn't eat, she is extremely tired, grouchy and sneezing. I brought her to the vet, and now she is staying overnight. It's probably a bacterial infection or a respiratory infection. I feel so bad and I miss my girl so much. Anyone else go through this? last year Jake was hospitalized for a week (psitoccosis sp?) but I had the flu and didn't really remember much of that week. Being without her is necessary, but so hard on me!

I'm sorry she's sick. I hope she gets home to you soon. I know you miss her terribly!

Thats hard. Birds are so good at hiding illnesses. Luckily parrots are a bit stronger than your average parakeet. I hope all goes well.

I'm sorry to hear Scarlet is sick. You did the best possible thing by getting her to the vet.

Hope she gets better soon and let us know how she is doing.

thanks everyone, I called the vet as soon as they opened to check in on her. She is eating and starting to be bossy, which is good, but I wont know if I can bring her home until later today. In the meantime I'm cleaning cages and changing out toys.
