Harrison's Bird food

Do any of you use this? My vet told me that Binx should be on it as opposed to Zupreem. He said Binx needed the High Potency Fine. I was also wondering if you had any ideas on where to get it for a good price.. It seems pretty pricey!

I use Zupreem Natural. Why did the vet say not to use it vs. Harrison's? Just curious...

Because the vet gets a bonus for promoting Harrisons.

It's a top rated food but it is very expensive. Roudybush is comparable and is cheaper so if you need to switch, I'd go with Roudybush Maintenance small.

Harrison's IS a very good food but I'd still be weary. I know for dog & cat food alot of vets carry specific brands which only they sell & will commonly advise owners they need it when other brands more easily found & less expensive work just as well.

Best bet is to compare the ingredients and nutrients between both feeds and decide if you want to swap over for the Harrison's. I'd hate to say it but more often than not vets ARE there to make a profit in offering their services, and products are included in that.

WARNING: I am NOT stating to ignore or disregard your vets advice, nor am I meaning to badmouth the majority of vets in practice. Everyone should rely on their vet for advice as well as trust them. Just make sure to use common sense in your decisions!

He said he has switched a TON of birds from Zupreem to Harrisons and their feathers glow and their feces has a better consistency? :?

Do a little research and think things over. We have people on the forums here that feed all 3 of the "big" name brands and have nothing bad to say about them really.

I did my own research and decided Roudybush was the best in my opinion as a balance of higher quality and price. But my opinion is not the same as others here or elsewhere.

Thanks! Not too helpful, but it IS an answer!

My birds' feathers all glow...er, except for the CAG, but she won't stop biting hers off...so I can't blame the food

Haha, yes I bet he's switched a lot of birds. He must be doing pretty well.

I say go with Roudybush. Harrison's is more prone to spoilage and ridiculously overpriced (hey those vets have to make a buck too you know). Also I don't think I'd trust a vet's advice about general diet (perhaps diet in response to a particular illness but not overall). I think breeders and other parrot owners are more in the loop of what foods prove healthy for parrots than vets who are more removed from this.

All reasons why i love this place! I am glad I have such a support system and people i can talk through all the choices i make, so that i can learn from someone else' mistakes! I am going to check into the roudybuch. Harrison's is so expensive!! The vet sent me home with samples. The good thing is, I have never had a difficult time getting binx to switch foods, he really just eats whatever is in front of his, unless hes tired of it!

Thank you!!!
