I'm getting my Brownheaded parrot in about 4-7 weeks now. Just going over his dietary needs and my wife and I eat eggs almost everyday! We primarily eat the egg white and toss the yolk as too much of that is unhealthy.

So my question being -- If my bird enjoys unsalted, unpeppered, egg whites with nothing else but the shell added, would it still be too much if he were to eat egg whites about 4 times a week?

I've noticed that nobody here has mentioned anything regarding just the whites.

Thanks a bunch guys :)

The yolk is NOT unhealthy. ; )

An egg yolk contains almost everything you need.

I never ever give egg in shell to my birds. They may learn to eat eggs of their one, if you have some bad luck.

Too much of anything is never good. Just give little every time. : )

Birds that are given very good food, may go in to breeding stage, and become very protective towards any except to his/her partner. (among whit other things)

My wife and I are on the p90x diet and are forbidden to eat the yolks due to the fat content and consume the whites for the protein. But I guess in the case of our bird, him having it once in a while won't hurt eh?

I find that out of everything regarding getting a pet parrot, understanding their dietary needs is the most confusing for me. I'm constantly on here scanning though various threads to get an idea as to what other people are feeding their Pois. What a variety!! Wow... And what to feed and how to introduce it to a baby might be difficult for the first little while. Hopefully my bird won't food regress due to stress.

I'm just trying to think of every possible situation we could run into, and different variations when it comes to feeding etc. --- Maybe im over thinking this LOL

Best safe than sorry :S

Thanks for the input :)

Unhatched birds cannot get nutrition from their parents like humans. They develope and grow by consuming the yoke of the egg. It is a natural food.
