Head feathers

Postby Ben » Fri Aug 20, 2010 11:57 am

Hi all.

I'm probably suffering from 'new owner 'syndrome' but I've noticed a small line of feathers on Jabbas head appear to be damaged, almost like a bald spot.

Its almost as if he has been leaning against the bars of his cage. I assume this is normal and nothing to worry out?

In other news, Jabba is now coming out of the cage and has pretty much nailed step up and target training. :D

I've had this happen before and it could be from rubbing his head on the bars or he could be molting though he's very young isn't he? He's probably too young for a molt. Do you have a photo of the bald spot we could look at?

Hi.

Yeah, he is about 14 weeks old. I did my best to get a picture. He thought the camera was food, then when he found out it wasnt he nibbled on my finger.

Its a bit hard to see. If you look directly up from his beak you'll notice the line forming.

My guess would be he's rubbing his head on something. When this happened with my bird (it started as a small line and gradually became a decent sized bald spot) I called the vet and he said to just watch him and wait for him to molt to see if it was some kind of permanent problem. It turned out to be nothing. It's probably the same with Jabba.
