just got senegal that was givin to me thay said she bit so i was afraid of her until i went to feed her and she rubed her head on my arm then we tried difrent things she knows stepup bot its ben 3 days know and im finding some problems she gets in the dog food and trys to bite when i get her out can she eat this? cant find anything she likes for treets ive bought broc. carrots apples green beans ,salad cuecumbers peppers this is getting exp. dont \know what to try? ps ive never owend a parrot before please help have 100 ?????

Uh...I am mildly confused about what you're asking. Just a warning: you WILL get bitten, but it is not the parrot's fault and does NOT mean the parrot is aggressive; just that it is a parrot! My caique Galileo has bitten me so many times, but she is getting much better with patience and time. Bonding with your bird well will ensure that biting is minimized, and learning birdie body-language is a MUST; soon you will be able to anticipate and avoid a bite.

Dog food really shouldn't hurt your bird, but do try to keep her out of it. She sounds food aggressive, too... I don't know how to work with that, but I know Michael has written articles on it under the 'Taming and Basic Training" thread. Have a looksie over there, there is tons of useful information. i think part of my ? is what do i use for treats? she dose come to me and sit on my sholder but some times she pulls hair or gets my ear not hard but it makes me leary?how do i let her know not to do things i dont like>iv ben using time out dont know if this will work?

My birds love raisins! They're great. And peanuts, grapes, sunflower seeds, sliced carrot, mango chunks, bananas, watercress, peas, kiwi... All kinds of things! It just depends on what the bird likes. Just try all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies, but never avocado or chocolate, which can be toxic to birds.

Galileo is also known to steal nilla wafers.

i don't even let my sennie on my shoulder because she will bite my ears or the skin on the back of my neck. yikes!! its not hard but enough to make me jump, so she is not allowed up there at all. she can sit on my belly or my finger only.
actually Marnie loves dog biscuits! i give her a little piece in the mornings when i put them out for my four dogs. some of her other favorite treats are: corn on the cob, peanuts, pistacios, granola,
watermelon, peanut butter on wheat pitas cut into bite size, pasta and spaghetti, she loves pizza crust and sunflowers seeds of course.
she is not too into any fruits fresh or dried, no bananas, no grapes. likes apples a little bit.
she did eat the fresh snow peas ($$) and liked cooked fresh broccoli at times.
nothing is ever consistent though, one minute she loves them and the next time she discards them.
so you just have to keep trying things i guess. just don't buy too much at a time till you know if she likes it or not.

thanks for the help ill keep trying. why dose she insist on being on me all the time? what is this? when i come in the room she starts walking the cage. i let her out 3 or moore hours a day.is it ok to feed her off my plate? can it make me sick? when do they start talking? she has a band on her leg do i leave it there and what is it?

You could make HER sick and malnourished, depending on what you're eating. Not really recommended.

Heehee...they're not humans honey. Birds either mimic words or they don't, and it takes dedication and LOTS of repeating whatever word you want them to say. The bird's ability to talk is by species and general temperment. Parrots don't just one day start talking if you don't work with them on it.

The band is for identification, write down the number and hatch date on it and keep it on file. If she ever gets out and someone finds her, you can use this information to get her back!

She could be molting. I suggest getting her to a certified avian vet for a health-check just in case, since she is a new bird to you.

Sometimes Letters are the breeders Initials.
42 is probably the number of the bird hatched...
But 10 is more than likely the year it was born.
