wow. sounds like you didn't know what you were in for when you agreed to take on this parrot! but good for you for knowing enough to ask all the important questions!

everything said thus far is really good. there are also a couple of books out there about senegal parrots that you might find helpful. i bought http://www.amazon.com/Guide-Senegal-Parrot-Its-Family/dp/0764138863/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283505993&sr=8-1 and http://www.amazon.com/Senegal-Parrots-Birdkeepers-Guides-Tammy/dp/0793814790/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283505993&sr=8-2 when i decided to foster a senegal parrot. but i realized that the care of senegal parrots is not too different from the care of parrots in general. so really any guide to pet parrot books out there would likely help you out. are you in the united states? at most pet stores you can pick up a yearly magazine-like thing called "birds usa" which features basic advice for the new bird owner. this guide is published by the editors of "bird talk" magazine: http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-magazines/bird-talk/default.aspx which i highly recommend, especially to the new bird owner. it features all sorts of basic training, health, entertainment, product information etc that many new bird owners will find helpful. and their web site, http://www.birdchannel.com/ is also a really good source of information in general. as in everything, there's lots of good and lots of bad advice out there on the internet, so definitely be careful of everything you read. make sure the advice is coming from professional trainers, avian veterinarians (they do extra training to work with birds) etc. the info on this forum is pretty good too. good luck!
