I think I'll buy a scale to weigh him once in a while.

So you are keeping him then.......???

kellybird wrote:Finally decided to weigh Samantha my senegal. She loves to lay upside down on her back and me and the kids were playing with her so I brought out my gram scale and she laid on it on her back. She or he (we don't know the sex) was 148grams. She feels perfect so I am going to assume this is normal weight for her. I think I am going to write this down for furture reference though if I ever feel she is underweight or overweight. She is 16 years old. Now to try and weigh my other birds. Does anyone have a blue fronted amazon or know the average weight on them because I know mine is definately over weight and is hard to control being that he is housed with 3 other birds. :amazon:

this is a link for the average weights for Macaws

I was informed my male Senegal was overweight... and its been a struggle to get him down to a healthy one. Cody the Senegal weighs between 168-170 grams.. although this morning he weighed 166 :) I usually try to weigh him every morning before he eats his breakfast.

Saga, Meyers parrot - 120 grams. (A few years ago at least...:D)
When she was wing-clipped (which was a few years ago), she weighed 110 grams.
Proud slave of Saga and Cirino, and missing Yondo and Egon.

Jacko my TAG usually tips in at somewhere between 350-365 g depending on the time of the year---he's on the big side for a Timneh but I always get compliments from the vet :)

Sully the cockatiel has recoccuring Giardia issues...so when it flares up and he gets ill he is in the 70-75 g range (scary I know  ) but when he's healthy and feeling good he plumps up to somewhere between 90-100 g. He's a small tiel though (definetly closer to the wild type bird) so even when healthy some people are astounded because they're used to the larger show tiels over 100 g.
