We use a digital postal scale by Office Depot. It's black, has a round area where the bird steps onto, and the buttons are red/grey. I looked for it online but had no luck finding it. Turns out our vet has been using the exact same scale too! :)

PeeWee the Senegal (male) weighs between 141 - 146 grams. I was worried he might be slightly on the overweight side. We try to get him to move his feathery arse by making him flap his wings when he's on our arms. He really just will not move much in general in the way of flying (though he's a great flyer when he's spooked). He's middle age in parrot years (18 years old this September), so I think he's somewhat set in his sedentary ways. Just gotta keep workin' with him...

kellybird wrote:Finally decided to weigh Samantha my senegal. She loves to lay upside down on her back and me and the kids were playing with her so I brought out my gram scale and she laid on it on her back. She or he (we don't know the sex) was 148grams. She feels perfect so I am going to assume this is normal weight for her. I think I am going to write this down for furture reference though if I ever feel she is underweight or overweight. She is 16 years old. Now to try and weigh my other birds. Does anyone have a blue fronted amazon or know the average weight on them because I know mine is definately over weight and is hard to control being that he is housed with 3 other birds. :amazon:

Did you ever have Samantha DNA sexed? My guess, purely based on the weight above, is that Sam is a "he." Seems male Sennies are in the 140 - 150 range. Females are closer to 120 - 130.

Lola (green cheek conure) weighs an average of 80 grams, but it does fluctuate from day to day.

Barney (cockatiel) - was around 105g, but he's been hit really hard by his first moult and has dropped down to about 97 - 98g. There's adorable little feathers everywhere, and his poor crest is looking very scruffy right now D:
