Okay to have a cooler in the same room as a bird?

Postby tishihara1994 » Sun Aug 29, 2010 8:37 pm

Well the room my budgie is in is my room. And in my room, there is a large desktop computer that generates a LOT of heat so my room can get awful hot even with the window open, and i have this -http://www.air-n-water.com/product/AF-330.html. It's pretty much a cooler that uses water to purify and cool the room. I was wondering if this will be okay for the bird or well it harm it.

I would assume that it isn't much different than having an air conditioner running, the only thing is to make sure the ionizer is turned off.
this site wrote:According to the EPA, ionizers are not effective in removing particles, chemicals or odors and, to add insult to injury, generate unwanted ozone. The EPA states:
"When inhaled, ozone can damage the lungs. Relatively low amounts can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath, and, throat irritation. Ozone may also worsen chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and compromise the ability of the body to fight respiratory infections."
Both the EPA and the American Lung Association are very clear about the dangers of ozones -- any amount of it. Both organizations recommend HEPA units that do not generate ozone to clean indoor air.

I thought ionizers have a built in anti ozone feature??? I'm pretty sure mine said something about eliminating rather than creating it.

I don't know about that. The better quality models might. I'd rather avoid an ionizer altogether though. The EPA has a section on air cleaning, if you want to read it http://www.epa.gov/iaq/aircleaners/index.html

This may be obvious but make sure the room doesn't wind up too cold.
