ZuPreem coloured good enough?

Postby rebeccaturpeinen » Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:01 pm

after reading about food on this forum i decided to switch Joey from seedmix to pellets.... i could hardly find pellets around here!!! i finally found zupreem but the coloured ones, not the natural but since it is so hard to find pellets in the first place i guess the coloured once are still better than the seedmix?

it took him a while to start eating them but now he likes it.... he wont eat the yellow ones though... i wonder why?

You know, theres nothing wrong with feeding a seedmix. As long as you make sure he actually eats everything and you give him lost of fresh vegetables and fruits on the side.

Yes. The coloured is fine. It's just has, what I consider to be unneccessary...scent and colour...I wish they wouldn't make it...but it's certainly not 'bad'.

Keep looking to see if you can find the natural...but in the meantime I think the pellets are important because they still contain various vitamins and micronutrients that the bird might not get enough of otherwise.

OR

You can add a vitamin to their food or water. I used to use it in the water because I knew they at least drink. When it's on the food I don't know if they get enough because some falls to the bottom of the bowl, etc.

I lost a cockatiel to malnutrion back in the 80s when I didn't know enough. I won't go through that again - it was horrible. I then used vitamins for years...and everyone was fine. Now I make sure everyone eats pellets as their dietary staple...and so far so good!

BTW...it's not just animals that can get vitamin defiencies...I found out I have a Vit B12 deficiency. I eat well...but diet alone doesn't supply as much as I need so I have to take supplements. The supplements work...as long as I stay on them, I'm fine.

hehe... that would be my sennie. he eats green, yellow, and red. Totally ignores the purple and orange. I couldn't stand how picky my guys were being so i switched them to roudybush. I still have some zupreem i give as treats from time to time, i think they enjoy the sweetness of them. I also didn't like what they did to my red belly's poo... strange colors. We are all green now

Mojo would eat an entire dish of colored pellets and leave the purple pellets behind. He would eat them eventually, but only when they were the last thing left in the dish!
