I would suggest giving him his seeds back sounds like he is very hungry as you usually get sleepy when you are starving. Then start slowly introducing new foods. Fruits contain a lot of water which might be why his stools have changed so much.....

Slow and steady wins the race.
good luck

hello every one, another day with my ill parrot...
this morning he showed better behavior than yesterday, he ate more seeds and more water... he moved more.. he tried to climb the cage and jump.. had both eyes open for 1st time in 2~3 days.. he went to sleep back again now.. so i left him with his covered cage and went out :)

have you thought about having a farm vet see your bird just in case? one of my distant relatives in the middle east is a vet for farmers, but he would see the occasional pet parrot for lack of vets elsewhere. if they take care of chickens, they probably have at least a little avian experience.

that being said, this probably is from the diet. greys are especially nervous with sudden changes. best to change diets slowly. good luck!

all i found is one vet for chickens, and he apologized, he said he cant look at my bird since its a wild one, and he has no experience in wild birds.. other than that i got no look finding another one...
Jacko is doing fine the last two days, he is slowly getting better... hope things keep getting better for him in the next few days too..

Am I watching my bird dying??? :(

That sounds bad and to put it bluntly, yes, you may be watching your bird die. Vomiting combined with yellow-green waste possibly indicates liver failure. African greys a prone to liver disease. A fluffed up, slow bird with these signs is very very sick. I wouldn't worry about how fast you changed the diet right now, you need to get him to a vet. Even a non-avian vet may be able to help, this sounds like an emergency. Your bird sounds like it need intravenous fluid therapy and oral nutritional support. A small animal specialist even should be competent enough to help. Do you have a zoo nearby? Zoo vets work with birds a lot? A wildlife sanctuary? Wildlife vets work with birds a lot (I do, 80% of the patients I treat are birds).

Try the american association of avian vets (aav.org) they have members from other countries too so you may be lucky and find a bird vet close by.

Good luck :gray:

Dear everyone.. sorry for late replies, but i've been really busy with parrot... today im supposed to get two doctors phone numbers and ill call them and see how can they take a look at it or maybe advice via phone...

he stopped the vomitting long time ago, and the runny waste... his waste is now more solid... he eat a little, so he got really weak.. so, since yesterday night, i started feeding him babies food that they take before they can eat solid food, its made of Semolina, no milk involved...

http://www.babygoodfood.com/servlet/Detail?no=21

he seems to love it.. i fed him with spoon.. he recognized the spoon and came running to it... maybe his previous breeder used to feed him this way...
this morning i gave him more and he almost ate the whole plate, and its already obvious he is gaining his health back

will keep u posted about Jacko's situation and what would the doctors say..

Thanks every body.. each word you send might save Jacko's life :)
