iiiiiinteresting! birdvet, do you know the logic over buying ACV that's raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized? i know they use bacteria to ferment things to get vinegar, so i assumed there was just some value to that bacteria somehow. then i heard about "enzymes" in the ACV as well. i'm actually a type of human doctor, so i totally know the value of scientifically studied medicine as opposed to "natural" remedies alone. but quite a number of our medications started out in "natural" sources like plants. so long as we make sure we're not doing any harm by adding complementary techniques, i feel like it's great to go for it!

Hey. Can't say I do know much behind the rationalistion behind buying the raw ACV. I guess there are always some bugs that get past the stomach and into the intestines. Unpasteurised/unfiltered products scare me because there are so many nasty bugs out there that I don't think the body needs us to make extra work for it by the addition of more potentially harmful bugs, there are enough out there in our day to day life as it is :D

I have to admit I am very sceptical about most natural remedies but only because most of them have no proven efficacy. That's the scientist in me I guess, a sceptic ;). However, for the few that do actually document results properly (and not just by heresay, personal experience etc) then I'm all for trying them.

One of my mentors, an avian specialist in Australia, sums it up pefectly with this quote: "Not all natural products are good for you; take snake venom for example..."

And yip, many many of our products we use now originated from natural remedies but they have undergone stringent testing and quality control to ensure that they work. I guess one of the main reasons I am sceptical is because many of the natural products that people try and sell us have no quality control, no proper dose rates worked out, most are just anecdotal etc etc...

So yeah, as a human medical professional, "First do no harm" is also your motto so we need to take that seriously and make sure we are very certain that the products we are using have undergone enough testing to make sure they are reasonably safe and won't harm our patients...mistakes do happen, I know (Thalidomide), but at least to the best of our ability we try not to inflict unneccesary harm on our patients, and that's what the scientific trials are there for...I believe natural remedies should be tested in the same way and should be enforced as strictly because many of them have the potential to do a lot of harm...

A bit off topic, oops... :D
