Our baby GCC has hurt her wing :(

Postby bmsweb » Tue Sep 14, 2010 5:56 pm

She seems ok, in that she can still play, fly etc but we are trying to figure out how she's done this. Will provide more details after I get back from the Vet. I've decided I'm going to keep her in Cotton Wool!!!

Uh oh. I hope she hasn't done too much damage to herself.

I have a horse that people think I should keep in bubble wrap! But I don't think it would work.

OK I'm home now . . . . . without her

I have to go back in 2 hours to pick her up!!! She has to have stitches!! I will post some pictures when I get her back. Have no idea how she did it either. Going to check her cage out to see if it has any sharp pointy bits.

Her injury is at the trailing edge of her right wing where it joins her body.

how scary! good thing you took her to the vet  I'm going to do a safety check in my girls cage now... do you think she might've fallen badly in the cage or something bizarre like that? I hope she recovers very soon!!

Its really a strange spot to have this sort of accident. She hasn't crashed or fallen or anything (that i'm aware of). If it were something sharp on the cage realistically she should have hurt her feet or something like that. I'm 100% sure what ever happened occurred in her cage.

I just got word from the vet that she is awake and they will give me a call in a about an hour to pick her up. They also said they have finalized the Bill :violin:

Wow, thank you for being such a generous owner and taking care of the parrot no matter what. I was in the same position as you recently and understand how anxious it can all be.

Please confirm that this accident was not the result of being flighted?

Wow Brian, that sucks! Glad she is okay and it was on a couple hundred. But what the heck did she do??? silly bird.

Years ago my dog scraped his eyeball, had to see a vetrinarian opthomolgist, get special drop every 2 hours yep set the alarm, oh and it cost over $1000.00

Michael it had nothing to do with flight at all and when I post the pictures you will see what I mean. She sometimes wants out of her cage and tries to squeeze herself into stupid parts of the cage and i think this is how it must have happened. Later tonight I will post more detailed information about the whole thing.

To cut a long story short, it was a lot worse than it looked as the feathers were hiding a lot of the damage. Originally I was told two Stitches and she would be back to normal in a couple of days. She ended up having stitches from the trailing edge of her wing where it meets the body up to her elbow, all along the trailing edge if that makes sense.

The up side is they didn't remove any feathers. Will post more details when I get home . . Waiting in the car at the moment for my son to finish school. . she is in the car with me eating apple :)
