Thank you! He actually walks around as though nothing's the matter with his feet, though! That's why I was so surprised when I noticed the sores as I started flipping him onto his back the past few months. I feel like if it hurt him, he wouldn't be perching in all the crazy places he perches. Stubbon little Senegal! But on the plus side, it does seem like it's very gradually getting better. Will take photos weekly...

Great photos, its good to get an image of what you're talking about. It looks like about grade 1, maybe grade 2 bumblefoot so not too serious yet and probably not very painful yet. I reckon the sorbolene and everything else you're doing should help :D.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the well wishes! I have a few photo updates and info updates.

So I think I've figured out what's been going on. Basically, PeeWee hasn't been completely eating his Harrison's pellets. It looked like he was eating them. But upon closer scrutiny of his dietary intake, it seems he's been picking out the small corn pieces embedded in each pellet and tossing the rest aside. This explains why he wouldn't even touch the Roudybush (nothing to pick out of it!). So yes, it seems he's continued to be somewhat malnourished, hence the likely vitamin A deficiency.

So we've been giving him beta carotene supplementation. Can't really overdose on them as your body converts what it needs to vitamin A. I've attached some photos. His feet might look a little yellow partly due to lighting and partly as the beta carotene has been superficially staining everything (including me! sigh). *Edit: And we've also been using VetRap as suggested. Great idea! Got a few small comfy perches, though was worried about how sanitary cloth perches can be. Anyone know if you can throw them in the washer now and then as needed?

But as you can see, some very slight improvements. They don't appear as red and angry as before.

Of course the underlying problem has been diet. Any suggestions on getting him to eat the entire pellet? Should I try switching to another brand entirely? I've taken away all the dehydrated veggie/fruit as I believe he was preferentially eating those given the high sugar concentrations. I'm also continuing the sprouts, which I know he eats (thankfully). His weight remains steady despite the diet changes thus far... I swear, this bird has got to be the worst Senegal parrot eater ever!

Rambo :amazon: has similar marks more severe and on the top of his feet. I bought Booster plus which he will not eat. Rain a topical spray which I don't know how it will help but he likes it. Soother Plus which he hates because he does not want me to touch his feet but it seems to be working. Even after the big fuss he makes I know he feels better.
