We are going to visit OG this afternoon, and depending on how she is doing, we may bring her home and just make the trip out to the clinic twice a day until she is done with therapy. We talked to her doc this morning and she said OG seemed a little brighter. I'll post an update after our visit.

Update is not so good. OG is not doing well. Her weight is down to 100 grams! Her doctor is giving her two tube feedings a day. She is still also getting two injections a day for chelation therapy, but so far no improvement at all. The doc doesn't think her zinc level was high enough to cause her symptoms. She also consulted with another avian specialist, who looked at all the x-rays and labs, and they are leaning toward believing she does have PDD.

OG looked so pitiful when we went to visit her. We decided to bring her home with us and just bring her back in the morning for her tube feedings and injections, and then pick her up again tomorrow night.

I'm so sorry the update isn't better news, but I'm glad that you will be having her home with ya'll most of the time. Your attention to her, even just your presence, will reinforce your love for her to her and should be a great comfort to her. Being home might also enhance her recovery.

I'll be honest, I expected OG to be dead this morning because of the way she looked last night. I was pleasantly surprised to see that she seemed in better spirits this morning. My husband keeps telling me not to get too excited and not to jump to any conclusions, but she just seemed a lot better to me. I think being home for the night really helped her, but she didn't eat much of anything. We dropped her off at the vet again this morning for her chelation and tube feedings. I am really hoping the chelation therapy is working and she is on the road to recovery, but I know that anything can happen. I am just going to keep praying as well as keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Thanks to all of you for your kind support and understanding. I knew when I found this forum that I found people who would understand what we are going through.

Well, OGs condition has been pretty much the same now for a few days. Tomorrow is her last day of chelation therapy. The vet will do another blood draw to check her zinc levels again. At this point, it doesn't look as though it was the zinc that caused her problems as she has not shown enough improvement. Her weight has stabilized at about 105 grams, with two tube feedings a day. She cannot walk at all, eats almost nothing on her own, and has trouble perching. Tomorrow she will start taking Celebrex for PDD, which is what the vet thinks she has. We are also going to discuss the possibility of a crop biopsy and the continuation of tube feedings with the vet tomorrow. At this point, I think it is more about how much do we put the poor thing through.

Maybe the continued feedings and new treatment will be the solution. I hope so. I will continue to pray for ya'll and for little OG's recovery.
