Some fruits are safe and great for birds, especially as treats, while others are not and are toxic to birds. Do some research. Please make sure this food is not going to be harmful for a bird.
For a poorly raised bird (budgie) who only eats seeds, only eats pellets, or refuses to try any vegetables/fruits (and may not recognize these things as food):
Chop the fruits or vegetables you want your bird to try up into extremely small pieces (as small as the seeds or pellets the bird is eating, or even smaller) and mix with the bird's regular diet (seeds or pellets depending on what the bird eats). Most fruits are wet/moist and will stick to the pellets or seeds because of cohesion properties of water. Use this to your advantage. The budgie (or any other parrot) will have to eat a tiny bit of the fruit or vegetable pieces to eat its regular diet. Make sure some seeds or pellets are on top of the mix (clearly visible to the bird) in order to entice it to eat. Over a few days or weeks, keep making this mix and slowly decrease the amount of seeds or pellets and increase the amount of fruits/vegetables. Don't leave this mix in your bird's cage for a long time. Depending on your bird's feeding schedule, I would take it out after a few hours.
