Question- Zupreem

Postby Azure Hanyo » Thu Sep 30, 2010 9:44 pm

So Jovie's (Meyer's parrot) previous owner was feeding her Zupreem pellets and daily fruits and veggies. I have a thing against Zupreem...it reminds me of Fruity Pebbles for birds and I don't like the artifical coloring and whatnot. But is there anything *really* bad about it, or is it a good pellet choice? I am obviously not going to randomly change her food on her when I just brought her home a few days ago. I just would like anyone's advice, particularly if you are pro-or-anti-Zupreem.

Thanks everyone. :)

I'm just like you, I don't trust Zupreem, it looks fake. My Quaker never wanted anything to do with it, she'd rather starve than eat it !

the dyes and scent/flavors are totally unnecessary. a plain pellet like roudybush or harrisons would be better, with real fruits added on the side instead.

I don't like anything with dyes and such. But all my fids really like the Zupreem Natural, which doesn't have the dye in it. Since it seems that Scarlet has been getting sick/stressed a lot lately and she LOVES Zupreem Natural, I keep some on hand in case she decides to stop eating her Roudybush rice and mash.

Switch to Roudybush but don't rush it. Give the bird at least 2-4 weeks to adjust prior to starting the transition. Then take it slow. Of course if the bird just goes for the Roudybush off the bat, it may be quick, but usually birds who are accustomed to fruity pebbles and fruit loops aren't gonna wanna go for corn flakes and cheerios.

Excellent! The Fruity Pebbles need to go, as was my hunch. Roudybush isn't sold anywhere nearby that I am aware of, but I can check online I bet I can buy in bulk and save. Thanks for your input everyone! :D I would try to see if Jovie would like the mix I feed Galileo, but I doubt it. Gal's an exception and actually eats everything from her mix (it is a seed, fruit, vegetable, and pellet mix- not sure of what kind of pellets, but it is sold by the rescue I got her at and they feed it to all of their birds and it is certified organic... I think they make it there?) Heck I might try adding Roudybush to Gal's diet if she likes it. We'll see.

i had a good transition using hagen tropimix added to zupreem, then eliminating zupreem, and going to a roudybush/tropimix blend, with a couple of each of their favorite zupreem bits on top. that way if they were dissinterested in the roudybush, they still had their original food to fall back on, but the tropimix was still familiar to them.

Here is the cheapest I've found Roudybush... $35 for 25 lbs?! Pretty good.
