cause of death?

i have just watched my green parakeet boy, Ozzy die right in my own hands.

I was sitting down and Ozzy looked happy while he was eating. (his cagemate is Jackie (girl)) .he just suddenly flaps his wings and falls to the bottom of his cage. i go to look at him and he is on his stomach with his wings spread out flapping and shaking/squirming. he stopped and his eyes were opening and closing and i picked him up and layed him on my hand. he then started shaking uncontrollably again like some kind of seizure? he calmed down but he died while i was petting him. he wasnt even a year old yet. there was nothing wrong with the cage. it was cleaned out, fresh water and food.Jackie seems perfectly fine..not sure why ozzy is in the bottom of the cage. does anyone have any slight idea of what could have happened to my boy?

Sorry for your loss. There may have been symptoms of the bird's illness that you may not have noticed before. I highly recommend you bring your other bird to a vet and explain the situation, especially if you notice that the other bird is displaying symptoms of illness. Maybe this bird's crop or waste could be tested by a vet.

Update: I was just looking at your profile and noticed that you put some information up about your birds. I'm assuming from that information that the one that has passed away is the one that you just recently got. If that is so, this bird was almost certainly already sick from the store, breeder or other place you got it from. It's very possible that the bird you have already had contracted a disease of some kind. This is why it is very important to quarantine a new bird.

I am so sad for you and the unexpected loss of your little boy Ozzy. Had he anything in his mouth earlier? I hope someone here will be able to offer you some possible explanations.

Very sad! I'm sorry for your loss!

I would get the body to an avian vet as soon as possible for a post mortem. The longer you wait the less information they will be able to get as the body starts to decompose immediately after death. Sorry, horrible to think of this for your own pet.
