Pumpkin Seeds

Postby KristinShaye » Thu Oct 28, 2010 5:56 pm

This question may have already been answered so sorry in advance if this has been posted before. I was wondering since it is halloween I have carved a pumpkin and saved the seeds. I have not given my bird any because I wanted to do some research first. Are pumpkin seeds harmful or good for birds? :?:

Pumpkin seeds are often sold as treats for birds, I think I'd consider them in the same dietary role as nuts. With seeds from a fresh pumpkin I'd think the worry might be being sure they are thoroughly clean and that they've been kept refrigerated so any residual goop from the pumpkin itself can't spoil. I might be tempted to roast them to make sure they are sterile.

We used to do that at Halloween, roast the pumpkin seeds for a treat! Haven't done that in years!

I was going to ask the same thing.

My mom roasts them every year :)
