Torn Toe Nail

Postby Munchy » Tue Dec 07, 2010 10:04 am

Hi,
Yesterday I noticed One of Disney's toe nails was missing. There was only a small white bit of something left. He didn't seem bothered by it at all. It was very difficult to see if some of the actual toe was missing as well, but I think it's just the nail. That toe has always has a couple of white places and that seemed dead or something. Plus the nail never gripped the way other toes have.
I was wondering if it is just the nail will it grow back? I know nails grow it's just teh way it looks. LIke a tiny piece of white thing that seems like it might be part of a nail.
Not that It matters as he is getting along fine and is happy as can be, and I know many birds function with deformed feet or missing toes, I am just hoping it will grow back.
I keep racking my brain trying to figure out how it could have come off but can't figure it out. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that that toe didn't work as well as the others...
Has anyone else had anything similar happen?

Yeah, i don't know much of Disney's history but it might be an old injury, i guess you don't think it's a infection or somethig ie; red, inflammed etc. If the rest look ok i wouldn't stress if it dosn't seem to bother him. How well do you know your vet ? maybe a phone call

In looking at this afternoon it seems like just the nail. A tiny white pencil thing is left. When I first got him that foot was a bit larger. Barely noticeable. It doesn't look like any infection or any kind of injury, just a missing nail.
I have the most awesome dog, cat, and equine veterinarians in the Central Valley. One of their vets is an avian vet. He is one I have never met or used, but now that I have a bird I'm sure I will.
I don't think I'll take him in for this because he seems fine. But maybe it will be nice to meet the vet etc...
I''m watching him walk around and it is definitely just the nail. I hope it grows back.
