Temperature...

Postby Tandi » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:41 am

How do i know if Jodi is hot or cold? On 2 occasions i have noticed her shivering and when i have touched her i have noticed that her beak and feet are very cold and they are usually very warm. Is this normal? Are her feet and beak sposed to be warm to the touch? If she is a bit chilly how do i go about warming her up? Is it true that if her feathers are standing on end she is cold? Her cage and her parrot stand aren't in draughty areas and she does get covered at night.

Hey Tandi, it does sound as if Jodi might be cold, what's the temp. inside? How old is Jodi? birds will burn fat quickly to stay warm .younger birds may not have any stored fat. She may not be adjusted to your climate if she's younger, younger/older birds might need a little more warmth in the cooler months, maybe a few extra sunflower seeds in the winter months wouldn't hurt.Is she flighted or clipped? Maybe she flys around alot burning off fat? Is she bathing in her dish? My OWAs will bath no matter the temp, they're crazy about water.
