Budgies not eating

Hi,
** I bought a new pair of adult budgie. I haven't seen any one of them eating or drinking since all day long, and now its night time.
** I also notice them perching like 'head-down' and 'back' like golf ball sometimes in day and probably at night time also.
** Some times look likes both of them trying to lay eggs.(I dont know how budgies look like exactly at the time of laying egg)
** Vent area of both looks like little swollen (more of the female).
** I doubt if one or both are females.(Breeder told me that this is a ready pair for breeding)
** All other activities seems to be normal like flying inside cage or chirping.

Many parrots refuse to eat for the first few days when coming to a new home from stress/fear. If they are not eating by the end of the second day at all, you'll need to contact a vet.

If the breeder said that they're a" pair ready for breeding". than they may not be pet birds and are not used to human contact. Try leaving them alone and give them a little space.

When I first got my budgies, they didn't move very much, and I never really saw them eating or drinking. After the first couple of days though, they become more and more active. I could tell that they had been eating, since there was proper droppings and I could see empty shell husks. These were untame, store bought budgies. So probably like your breeders, they are not used to people.

Maybe you should try to put some millet in their cage? I know that I saw my budgies eating their millet treat before I saw them eating their seed mix. Maybe it could help coax them into eating more?

When it comes to sexing them, look at their ceres. If it's blue/purple, then it's a male, if its tan or crusty brown, then it's a female. If the cere is pink or white, they are too young to visually tell the sex.

How swollen is the cere? I'm pretty sure that when female budgies are in breeding conditions, their ceres will darken and appear crusty. If that isn't the case, take her to the vet.
