Thank you Michael.. I have a cat carrier that I will go clean and bleach and rinse and clean.. and set up as a temporary home for Willow.

I've skimmed your links and will read them in depth later..

I wish we had an avian vet here but we don't. We just have a vet who see's birds.

Willow is not on pain meds poor thing.

I also have a large aquarium but that would be be cumbersome, hard to set up a perch in and hard to make safe at night in .. against cats. The carrier I can move into the closet.

Willows favorite nuts are sunflower seeds... yay and we always have those on hand ... and they are also high in calcium :) I had no clue but looked this up after reading your post :)

Ok off to set up a more suitable recovery home for an injured bird.

Yay Truman for hanging in there and getting better :D

Oh I hope Willow is feeling better! My dad once backed up his chair and rolled over our cat's foot. He didn't realize it and just sat there. He broke her foot and it bled everywhere. He felt so bad...good news is she healed and later forgave him. Sure, it's not a bird but hey, our parrots are way smarter than any cat anyway. I'm sure you two will be back to cuddling in no time!

He's all set up in the carrier.. looks much less... awkward thank you Michael for suggesting something like that.

I'd thought about it.. but he seemed to be liking the cage.. but I was wondering cause he didn't seem to be maneuvering around to get to the food.

This carrier has a door feeder that has never been used. So it's perfect..and a perch fits right across real secure. Although he's still chillin' on his wubby at the bottom.

I did put the wubby at the bottom of the cage when we got home from the vets... I'm not completely daft... but he climbed up high and sat on a perch. so .. yeah.

silly birds

I am hoping that he makes a quick recovery -- this is my personal nightmare with Scooter. I try very hard to pay attention to where he is all the time, but sometimes he gets on the floor or in my keyboard drawer and I am so aware of what might happen if I move the wrong thing the wrong way at the wrong time. An accident could happen to any of us, and I'm thinking it's actually a good thing that it was only a toe! Please don't be hard on yourself!

Yeah after reading Michael's story I much relieved it was just his toe.. not a leg...that would have been so much worse, specially since we have no avian vet around.
My vet almost sent me home without systemic antibiotics. I was like considering it's opened and on his foot with a break... I'd be ever so grateful if you'd be ever so not stupid. I know there's a chance his toe might fall off anyway .. *cringes* I'd really like to do my best to make sure that doesn't happen and to make sure he doesn't get a systemic infection in the meantime.
*cough*

He's really eating up his sunflower seeds.. that's good :)

Windy misses his brother... Yesterday When Willow started screeching I brought Windy up for a 5 minute visit.. no contact.

Just now I brought him up and let him sit inside the carrier to see how they would do... and they just put their faces together. I hope that's ok.. I don't want either bird getting too depressed without the other. Especially Willow who needs to keep his spirits up and is alone much of the time for right now.

I'm hoping he's not so sleepy soon ... I'd like to bring the carrier downstairs and keep it on my desk during the day so he can still be here with us.. but right now he's just so tired. I don't know what's best really. It's hard with the young cats and Windy is sooo playful and chirpy .

Willow apparently had enough upstairs time for now.. he started screaming.. and as soon as i brought the carrier down he started eating his seeds and pellets... he's dozy though so i'm just gonna mostly cover the carrier down here and do my best to keep it normal but a lil extra quiet for him.

He's also asking for head scritches through the cage door so that's really good.

No weight on the foot but he's really starting to use that wing as an extra foot... birds are truly amazing.

So update.

The swelling is gone.

The open wounds are completely closed. Scabbed over nicely.

And he's placing just a tiny bit of weight on just the very tip of his toenail on that middle toe.

Seems to be coming along nicely.

Thank you so much for all the help.

I'm sure Willow is very grateful as well, I really had no clue what to do for him.

Great to hear he seems to be on the mend. Keep us updated on his progress. Sometimes I think the animals are tougher than we give them credit for.
