Reason for concern?

Postby Anneke » Mon Jan 17, 2011 11:46 pm

Lychee has started eating her 'wooden' hanging ladder I made for her. The bars are simply popsicle/ice cream sticks I bought at a $2 shop :) and are painted. On the pack it stated that it was non-toxic. Does it matter if she eats the toy or not?

Do you mean actually eating, or just destroying? If she is eating it, that'd be cause for concern, even if it was natural.

I also wouldn't be wild about chewing on paint, even if it is non-toxic. Food coloring would be better, that's what the wood in most parrot toys is colored with. Chewing is definitely normal behavior (but not ingesting the pieces) and to be encouraged, but I'd make a new one and color the pieces with food coloring. You can even find plant-based colorants at some markets if you are into that.
