Should I be concerned?

Postby parrotgirl100 » Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:56 pm

Hi, I'm Gemma. Yesterday I adopted a pair of Orange Faced Pied Lovebirds, who are currently named Bitsy and Teeny (yeah, I'm going to change their names :) ), genders unknown. They occasionally have little fights of a sort - mostly just flapping their wings and peeping furiously at each other, though occasionally they peck. I visited with them and both seemed perfectly healthy. Then I had lunch, and when I returned from the dining room and visited them again, Bitsy had two small holes on either side of the top of her beak. Did Teeny bite her/him, or are those holes natural and she just got the feathers covering them mussed up? These are my first birds and I don't know - please help! :(

There are two nares (nostrils) above the beak, which are normally visible in most birds. I was just looking a pictues of peach-faced lovebirds and I can see that they aren't as obvious as they are on GCCs or Capes. I'm sure that's what you are seeing. Birds also have ear holes on either side of their head which are normally covered with feathers.
