im so sorry that i cannot help i ahve no experience hand feeding birds except for feeding a 4 day old turkey live locusts! the breeder was absolutely in the wrong to sell you a bird that was not confident in eating on its own. and good for you for taking you're bird to the vet. a lot of people don't captwest gave some really good advice. i was at the birdbarn the other day getting some bird food and i lent up against a cage (thinking it was empty) to get my wallet out and i got bitten on the shoulder by a b.g macaw. its has a beak deformity so he cant bite properly LUCKY FOR ME. and he was a very old grumpy thing too!

i wish you the best of luck with you're bird

She's doing a lot better, thank you for asking :). Sorry haven't been on here in a day or two been real busy. She is starting to not want nearly as much formula to be fed from me as before. She is wanting to scurry away from the handfeeding situation and eat on her own. She is being really adventurous in trying out chewing her pellets, and tropimix. She is making great progress and is actually learning how to crunch her food. ( after actually seeing me crunch on that nasty zupreem fruitblend pellet ). She is not wanting to eat her fruits and veggies very much, and is really keen on her pellets. Don't know if this will change overtime but she's been very intrigued lately about her kibble and seems to be enjoying it. She now weights 714g with her crop fully empty which is a big step up from 680g with a fully empty crop on tuesday. Is this a normal weight gain? Also, captwest I see that you are a huge amazon buff. My girlfriend's parents are very interested in a double yellow that has been down at a pet store here for quite sometime. She is so very sweet, but seems expensive for an amazon. She is $2,499.99 plus tax. My girlfriend's parents used to own an Umbrella Cockatoo but he passed away at the age of 47. ( He was a rescue ) Anyways, was just wondering if that was an average price for a double yellow? I know pet stores mark it up, but this just seems a little over the top?

I'm glad to hear all is well, i don't know about what a B/G should weigh, however young birds that are just weaning always lose weight, males it seems , more so than females. I think this is whymany breeders whack them so hard when clipping wings.( some of the males can fly with almost 0 primary feathers) anyway i'm sure his weight will continue to improve. Now about the price of DYHs.the law of supply and demand apply here.Acouple of yrs ago i could get 1200 or more and now 900-1000, i would imagine pet store in my area could get them for maybe 750 and they markup about 100%, All that being said ,pet store price is maybe 1500-1800 . I did see Amazons in a Fla. store the other day for 1000-1200 but they sell a lot of cockatoos and zons weren't moving well ( didn;t want any from me). In all fairness DYHs are harder to breed than other zons and are worth more, but i'd love to find a store who could pay me 1200 and sell them for 2500. Good Luck maybe some others from your area will chime in and let us know what prices they see. I do see a lot of rehomes in the 400-500 range, but most are a handful with lots of problems.

have you tried )(and this will sound crazy) but putting the fruit mix in the food prosseser and mxing in some pellets or nuts as she will reconise the fruit and get a taste for the pellets and nut then reduse the intensity of the blend so its more chunky then start redusing the fruit and then she will get used to pellets in no time!
just because you dont know something why cant your bird teach you
