runny poo, advice?

Postby Athena&beepbeep'smom » Tue Feb 15, 2011 5:19 pm

Okay, Athena for the last two days has had very runny stools. There's no smell. The solid part still has the same look and texture. It's just that the watery part is very extremely watery. She does not appear abnormally lethargic (it's winter so she's going to sleep earlier but has been for two months). When she's awake she's playful and alert. still using all of the cage. still eating and drinking normally etc. Of course I know the right and best answer is to take her to the vet, and I do have an excellent avian and exotics vet. But the one and only time I brought Ms. Athena to the vet she freaked out, pulled a blood feather, and didn't act or eat right for a week, so I just thought I'd check here first and see if anyone had any tips or anything I could rule out before taking the plunge at the vet.

Have you changed anything in Athena's diet in the past few days? Sometimes the color or consistency of their droppings can change based on what you're feeding ... especially if you've introduced new food.

Merlin's poop gets very watery if he has had too much fruit (is that possible  ). As Izver already noted, If you have added any new fruit to her diet, this could be the cause.

if she is eating a lot of fruits and vege that can change it too. food that holds a lot of water like apple, orange, celery, cucumber, watermelon, rockmelon, honeycomb melon, kiwi fruit. if she east alot of fruit and veg this can change it. if you are in doubt or worried book an appointment with you're vet or avian vet and get them to run test on a sample of her poo.
