Racing heartbeat???

Postby Tandi » Thu Feb 24, 2011 5:28 am

Yesterday, I took Jodi to go and sit outside for a bit! She likes to be outside and I think it's good for her to get some fresh air too! She was on my shoulder and next thing I heard this sound in my ear like a helicopter and I assume it was her heart racing and beating so loud! But I don't know why it happened, she didn't seem to get a fright or anything like that so I don't know what would have cause her heart to race! I rushed inside and we sat on the couch and she was okay then, her heart stopped racing! I got such a fright! Any idea why this may have happened? And should I be worried? Should I take her to the vet?

Hey Tandi, Do you take her outside often? Sometimes Zons will stress at being out in the great wide open, if they don't have much experience at it, they are preyed on by raptors and sometimes notice things like a buzzard high over head that you wouldn't notice and i've had them spook from things like a bumbell bee. If going outside is a new thing try it early or late in the day when maybe not as bright and they don't feel as exposed as opposed to the bright lite of mid-day. How about some Jodi pics? How is she doing? You know that if you keep posting that micheal is going to fuss about your lack of an avatar, come on if i can do it anybody can.

We do go outside fairly often, and at different times of the day! I believe that it is good for her to be outside from time to time! And she really does enjoy it, she gets very vocal when we are outside! (I take that as a sign of enjoyment) I have noticed that she "alerts" when she hears different kinds of birds, and she sort of cocks her head as if she is listening to it, so perhaps yesterday she heard and then saw something that frightened her that I did not perceive as a threat? Does that sound possible?

I'm dying to upload some Jodi pics, but I'm slightly technologically challenged and haven't figured out how to so it! I have tried to upload and avatar, but it seems I didn't make the picture small enough! Also, I generally come on to the site from my Blackberry and very seldom from my computer and I am unsure if I can upload pics from my BB? And directions would be appreciated...lol...

I'm sure that someone on here can help with all that puter stuff, but i'm not the one. ;) About having Jodi out, my birds seem to be very aware of their surroundings and notice most things long before i do or aren't as obvious to me.

FYI: Birds normally have a very fast heart beat. MUCH faster than ours.
Wild animals are called 'wild' for a reason. Keep them that way. Adopt your pets, or buy them from a certified breeder.
